Saudi Aramco announced October 21 that it picked seven contractors for its 400,000 barrel-per-day “Jazan” refinery and integrated gasification combined-cycle (IGCC) project in the southwest part of the Kingdom.

Sources close to the project told Gasification News on October 29 that the IGCC portion of the complex will top out at a whopping 2,000 megawatts – by far the largest IGCC project in the world.

Capex wasn’t disclosed, but experts pointed out that a project of such a size easily would cost many billions of dollars.
