Saras 1Q-2015 Refining Margins Soar; IGCC Steady

Italian oil major and integrated-gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power producer Saras announced that its first-quarter (1Q) 2015 corporate-wide adjusted net income rose to €54.5 million (US$62 million), up from a net loss of €40.4 million (US$46 million) in 1Q 2014.

CVR Partners 1Q-2015 Profits Improve; Gasification Hits 99.4%

Texas-based CVR Partners—operator of a petcoke-gasification-based fertilizer plant in Kansas—on April 30 reported that its first-quarter (1Q) 2015 net income rose year-on-year (y-o-y) to $29.8 million on sales of $93 million, up from $21.5 million net income on sales of $80 million in 1Q 2014.

IEA: $40 Trillion In Investments Needed for Low-Carbon Energy

The International Energy Agency (IEA) said in its May 4 Energy Technology Perspectives 2015 (ETP) report that energy companies and governments must invest at least $40 trillion in “low-carbon” energy in coming years in order to head-off the worst effects of so-called “global warming” during this century.
