WSU Receives Grant To Study High-Energy Biofuels

Hanwu Lei, Washington State University Tri-Cities (WSU-TC) associate professor in biological systems engineering, was awarded a $494,000 grant this fall to research catalysts, which will be used to increase the energy output and performance of biofuels, according to a WSU-TC news posting.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded up to $9 million to The Antares Group Inc. to enable more stable and diverse future feedstock supplies (such as corn stover, switchgrass and other warm-season grasses) for three cellulosic biorefineries in Iowa and Kansas, while increasing both profitability and ecological benefits in those areas.
